Sydney 2035:  two-hours for what should be a 40-minute drive, all bus services delayed due to congestion and trains at capacity. The city’s transport systems are at breaking point, and there’s no end in sight. 

At Transurban, our traffic forecasting team has crunched a whole lot of data from population estimates to the number of vehicles on the road today to create a picture of what it would be like to get around Sydney in 2035.

We’ve looked at two versions of Sydney – one based on continuing down the same path we’re on now, and the other shows how policy reform in road pricing and technology could ease the congestion, create more liveable cities and allow us to get the most out of advances in technology
